Interesting.
I believe that the choice of letting developers interact with a "restricted" language, instead of a generic one like Java, is a trade-off between complete freedom of action from the user point of view, and control and stability (and security obviously) from the cloud owner point of view.

I mean: if you own a Cloud platform, and allow users to be flexible enough to customize what they want, but still maintain control in your hands of the whole cloud, you can:
1) optimize your platform for speed and stability
2) control access and operations i.e. security
3) give users enough freedom to prefer your platform to others, also related to 1) and 2)

In the end, I believe that when clouds will be mature, they will have a similar paradigm: a pseudo programming language, flexible for developers, but stable and confined for the cloud owners.

This will be a very big challenge with Google Docs that is mostly free. I'm quite curious to see what will be the pricing for this web-based version.
